LAON PEOPLE, an artificial intelligence (AI) company, said on 17th that its subsidiary LAONROAD won a contract for a project titled "real-time traffic control using 360-degree AI intersection analysis and a digital twin."
The project, overseen by the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs (TIPA), aims to develop a platform that analyzes 360-degree intersection video with AI to identify vehicles and conditions and supports real-time control and prediction using digital twin technology. Digital twin technology refers to creating an identical object in a virtual space and validating it through various simulations.
LAONROAD will join a consortium led by UT Information to develop AI object detection and tracking algorithms and provide technology that uses video from all 360-degree directions to detect real-time traffic conditions and incidents.
Demonstration and verification will take place at an intersection in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, and the project period is three years through Aug. 2027.
A LAONROAD official said, "By building a smart intersection control platform that combines digital twins and generative AI, we have come to play an important role in the future development of national industries, including traffic safety as well as smart cities and autonomous driving," adding, "We will reduce traffic accidents and realize a safe smart city through efficient intersection management and real-time response."
