Hanla IMS, a company specializing in measuring instruments and control systems for ships, said on the 12th that it is developing an air monitoring device, a core component of the "Jang Bogo-II-class" submarine, to localize production.
Hanla IMS was selected in Dec. 2024 for the Korea Research Institute for defense Technology planning and advancement (KRIT)'s project to support localization of parts for weapons systems. Under this project, Hanla IMS plans to complete development of the air monitoring device by Dec. 2027. If development is completed successfully, it will be installed on the Jang Bogo-II-class submarine.
A Hanla IMS official said, "Based on the technological capabilities that supplied air monitoring devices to more than 2,000 merchant ships since 2003, in 2016 we developed a submarine air monitoring device and installed it on the 'Jang Bogo-III submarine,'" and noted, "If we succeed in developing the product currently underway for installation on the Jang Bogo-II submarine, it could also be applied to nine submarines to be built in the future."
