Domestic nuclear power-related corporations are on the rise. The news that small modular reactor (SMR) company NuScale Power has secured the largest order contract in history has acted as a boon. Additionally, the news that Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for nuclear cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining is interpreted as stimulating investor sentiment.
As of 9:46 a.m. on the 4th, Doosan Enerbility is trading at 64,000 won, up 1,600 won (2.56%) from the previous trading day in the securities market.
At the same time, stocks of companies related to SMR, such as Samsung C&T, KEPCO E&C, Woori Technology, and ILJIN Power, are also rising.
Earlier on the 2nd (local time), the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in the United States announced that it had signed a large-scale SMR construction contract with EntraOne Energy to respond to electricity demand. The contract is reported to be for 6 GW, capable of supplying power to 4.5 million households or 60 new data centers. The NuScale Power SMR will be applied at the EntraOne plant.
Hana Securities noted in a report that "the stock price showed a strong performance of over 8% the day before following NuScale's SMR order news, and improvement in domestic nuclear power-related equity sentiment is also expected," citing 'nuclear power' as a key theme. Samsung C&T, Doosan Enerbility, and GS Energy have invested equity in this company.
Furthermore, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power announced on the 2nd (local time) that it has signed a memorandum of understanding for mutual cooperation in the fields of nuclear power and hydrogen with the Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining (MoME). Through this agreement, KHNP and MoME are expected to cooperate in areas including establishing a foundation for Serbia's nuclear power, developing training programs for specialized nuclear personnel, and realizing green hydrogen demonstration projects.
