Jo Jwa-jin, the CEO of Lotte Card, issued an apology regarding the recent hacking incident and promised to fully compensate affected customers.
In the apology letter made public on the 4th, Jo said, "I deeply apologize for the significant inconvenience and concern caused to our customers due to the recent cyber breach at our company." He noted, "This incident stemmed from the inadequacy of our company's security management," adding, "There is no excuse for the fact that there was an intrusion by external hacking into the system that manages our customers' personal information."
Jo stated that he is currently working with relevant authorities and an external investigative agency to ascertain the details of the damage and explained that, so far, the investigation has not confirmed any leakage of customer government information. He also mentioned that they are monitoring all suspicious transactions both domestically and internationally in real-time and that they would prioritize reissuing cards to customers who made online transactions on the affected servers during the time of the external intrusion to prevent further damage. He reiterated the policy to fully compensate for any damages caused by this incident.
Earlier, Lotte Card confirmed that some servers were attacked by hacking attempts such as malware infection last month and reported this to financial authorities on the 1st. The Financial Supervisory Service has begun on-site inspections with the Financial Security Institute to confirm whether customer information has been leaked.
