As the U.S. stock market closed higher on expectations for Nvidia's performance, the domestic stock market is showing a downward trend on the 27th.
As of 9:05 a.m. on this day, the KOSPI index recorded 3,174.18, down 5.30 points (0.17%) from the previous trading day. Foreign and institutional investors are net selling 102.9 billion won and 36.8 billion won, respectively, while individuals are net buying 133.9 billion won.
The top stocks by market capitalization in the KOSDAQ market are mixed. While Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and LG Energy Solution are declining, Hyundai Motor, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Doosan Enerbility are rising.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is recording 800.94, down 0.72 points (0.09%) from the previous trading day. Foreign and institutional investors are more inclined to sell, having net sold 39.4 billion won and 9.4 billion won, respectively. Individuals are net buying 48.4 billion won.
Among the top stocks by market capitalization in the KOSDAQ market, Alteogen, Ecopro BM, Ecopro, and Rainbow Robotics are declining. Meanwhile, Peptron, LigaChem Biosciences, and Sam Chun Dang Pharm are rising.
Overnight, all three major U.S. stock indices closed higher. This is due to expectations for Nvidia's performance. Given that the 'artificial intelligence (AI) bubble theory' has surfaced and technology stocks have fallen, Nvidia's performance is expected to determine whether this controversy will intensify or settle.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 40,418.07, up 135.60 points (0.30%) from the previous day. The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 index rose 26.62 points (0.41%) to close at 6,465.95, while the Nasdaq Composite index increased by 94.98 points (0.44%) to finish at 21,544.27.
Han Ji-young, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, said, 'It is expected to be a turning point in determining which of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix will have the supply-demand advantage before the third-quarter earnings season.' He noted, 'Starting today, a supply-demand battle between these semiconductor stocks will unfold in the domestic stock market.'
