On the morning of the 22nd, it was announced on domestic portal sites that all branches of NH NongHyup Bank were 'closed,' causing confusion among financial consumers. Reactions such as, 'Have they already implemented the 4-day workweek?' and 'The bank is indeed ahead of civil servants' spread within communities.
On that morning, internet communities buzzed with news of the closure of all NongHyup Bank branches. An internet user captured a screenshot of the Naver screen indicating that all nearby NongHyup branches were 'closed' and posted, 'It seems like NongHyup is on a 4-day workweek?' The post received comments like, 'It turns out a 4-day workweek has been implemented somewhere' and 'I wish it were applied to our company as well.'
As discussions about implementing a 4.5-day workweek in the financial sector have begun, there is a growing atmosphere of presuming the implementation of a 4-day week at NongHyup Bank. The National Finance Industry Labor Union (Finance Union) aims to 'proactively introduce the 4.5-day workweek within this year.' To this end, the Finance Union plans to go on a general strike on the 26th of next month.
A NongHyup Bank official explained, 'This is due to an error in the data update of branch information at the Financial Settlement Institute,' adding, 'All branches are operating normally, and the introduction of a 4-day workweek is not true at all.'
The error has been resolved since around 10:40 a.m. that morning.
