Lee Jae-myung's government has appointed Lee Chan-jin, a lawyer at Jeil Law Firm, as the first commissioner of the Financial Supervisory Service.
The Financial Services Commission on the 13th appointed Lee Chan-jin as the successor to former FSS commissioner Lee Bok-hyun after a provisional decision. The FSS commissioner is recommended by the chairman of the Financial Services Commission and appointed by the president.
The Financial Services Commission noted, "He is evaluated as having excellent job performance capabilities, including providing legal advice and litigation on capital market accounting for numerous corporations such as venture start-ups and publicly listed companies," and explained the reason for recommending him, stating that he is assessed as suitable to carry out the Financial Supervisory Service's tasks, such as restoring trust in financial companies and strengthening consumer protection.
Born in 1964, he graduated from Hongdae High School and Seoul National University's law school, passing the 28th bar exam. He is a classmate of President Lee Jae-myung from the Judicial Research and Training Institute (18th class). He has served as vice president of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society and executive director of the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy. He also represented President Lee in cases of violations of the Public Official Election Act. Recently, he was the head of the social policy division of the Presidential Committee on Policy Planning.
