On the 7th, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) started higher despite uncertainties regarding the review of tariffs and tax reform plans.
On that day, the KOSPI index started at 3,214.81 and at 9:02 a.m. had risen by 23.77 points (0.74%) to 3,221.91 compared to the previous trading day.
In the market for securities (KOSPI), individual and foreign investors are each net buying 53.1 billion won and 20.8 billion won, respectively, while institutions are net selling 46.4 billion won.
Samsung Electronics, the top company by market capitalization on the KOSPI, is showing strong gains of over 3% in early trading, leading to an increase in the index. News that Apple decided to produce its next-generation chips at a U.S. foundry has been a positive factor.
Additionally, LG Energy Solution, Hyundai Motor, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Doosan Enerbility are also showing strength in early trading, while SK hynix, Samsung Biologics, and Hanwha Aerospace are experiencing declines.
Overnight, the three major indices of the U.S. stock market also rose. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 81.38 points (0.18%) at 44,193.12, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices increased by 0.73% and 1.21%, respectively.
Externally, the uncertainty around the U.S. tariff policy and the internal uncertainty surrounding the review of the tax reform plan that caused a sharp drop in the KOSPI at the end of last week remain as risk factors.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index recorded an increase of 2.34 points (0.29%) to 805.83 compared to the previous trading day. Although foreigners and institutions are net selling, individuals are net buying 38.5 billion won, driving the index upward.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, there is a mixed trend. While the stock prices of PharmaResearch, Rainbow Robotics, and HUGEL are rising, those of Alteogen, Ecopro, and Peptron are declining.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate is currently at 1,386.40 won, up 0.10 won (0.01%) from the previous trading day.
