The Korea Insurance Research Institute analyzed that vehicle flooding damage is concentrated from July to October due to heavy rains and typhoons.
According to the Korea Insurance Research Institute, there were 36,214 vehicle flooding accidents processed by automobile insurance over the past five years (2020-2024), with 34,605 of those occurring from July to October, accounting for 95.6% of the total.
The Korea Insurance Research Institute explained that even if a flooded vehicle appears fine on the surface, there may be serious corrosion or failure risks in key components such as electronic equipment, braking systems, and engines. It noted that repeated vehicle breakdowns or accidents while driving could occur after some time, requiring extra caution.
The Korea Insurance Research Institute stated that to prevent consumer damage from flooded vehicles when purchasing used cars, it provides a free flooded vehicle inquiry service through "Car History."
