The total subscription amount for individual comprehensive asset management accounts (ISA) has surpassed 40 trillion won. This marks a milestone achieved in just 9 years and 3 months since its launch.
The Korea Financial Investment Association noted that as of the end of June, the subscription amount for ISAs was 40.3847 trillion won, with the number of subscribers totaling 6.316 million.
In particular, compared to the end of 2024 (32.8770 trillion won), there was an increase of 7.5 trillion won in the first half of this year alone. This marks the largest increase ever recorded on a semi-annual basis. The number of subscribers also increased by approximately 330,000 during the same period.
ISAs are account-type products that allow investment in various financial products such as domestically listed stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), funds, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and savings, while also receiving tax benefits.
By type, the investment brokerage type, where subscribers directly invest and manage financial products, accounted for 24.3266 trillion won, or 60.2% of all ISAs. The trust type accounted for 15.0278 trillion won (37.2%), while the discretionary type recorded 1.0302 trillion won (2.6%).
Out of the total 6.316 million subscribers, approximately 5.29 million were investment brokerage type, which represents about 83.8%. The trust type had 905,000 subscribers (14.3%), while the discretionary type recorded 120,000 (1.9%).
By financial sector, the subscription amount through securities companies accounted for 24.6526 trillion won (61.0%). Banks, which primarily handle trust products focusing on savings, recorded 15.7320 trillion won (39.0%).
Lee Hwan-tae, head of the industry market division at the Korea Financial Investment Association, said, "With the new government's strong commitment and active efforts to stimulate the economy and revitalize the capital market, expectations for the stock market are higher than ever. If the tax benefits of ISAs and the expansion of subscriber age and other long-term investment incentives increase, it could serve as a springboard to hasten the arrival of the 'KOSPI 5000 era.'"
