NHN surged more than 20% in early trading on the 29th following news of its subsidiary NHN Cloud being selected as a provider for government graphic processing units (GPUs).
As of 9:09 a.m. on that day, NHN was trading at 35,550 won, up 6,150 won (20.92%) from the previous trading day.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 28th the selection of NHN Cloud, along with Naver Cloud and Kakao, as providers for a total of 13,000 GPUs. NHN Cloud will secure over half of the total GPU volume with 7,656 GPUs per provider.
Providers will be able to use 2,000 GPUs for operational costs on their own. They will be responsible for developing and enhancing their own AI, as well as supplying GPUs to academia and research institutions. The total budget for this project is approximately 1.46 trillion won.
