In the first half of this year, companies issuing stocks raised 9.1 trillion won in the capital market through paid-in capital increases. This is a 17.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
Korea Securities Depository (KSD) announced on the 24th the details of stock electronic registration for the first half of this year. A total of 790 companies registered stocks for the first time or added electronic registration through Korea Securities Depository, with a total issuance amount of 11.13 trillion won. While the number of issuing companies decreased by 7.7% compared to the same period last year, the issuance amount increased by 8.7%.
By market, KOSPI-listed companies and KOSDAQ-listed companies raised 5.998 trillion won and 3.049 trillion won, respectively, through stock issuance. Additionally, unlisted companies issued stocks worth 1.905 trillion won, while KONEX-listed companies issued stocks worth 186 billion won.
The primary reason for issuance, based on the number of shares issued, was paid-in capital increases, which accounted for the largest share (33.1%). This was followed by new stock issuance after capital reduction, exercise of convertible bonds and warrants, changes in par value, and new participation in electronic securities.
