Lee Seung-gun, the CEO of Viva Republica, the operator of Toss, fulfilled his April Fool's promise to send 100 employees on an overseas trip. The 100 selected employees will enjoy a luxury resort stay and travel program at the expense of the CEO.
According to the industry on the 21st, the CEO announced on April 1, which was April Fool's Day, that he would send 100 employees from subsidiaries on a prize trip abroad. As a result, the 100 selected employees will embark on a 2-night, 3-day group trip to Okinawa, Japan, next month.
This event was held to celebrate Toss's first annual surplus in 11 years and to boost employee morale. Viva Republica achieved a net profit of 21.3 billion won on a consolidated basis last year, marking a successful transition to surplus. Previously, the transfer scale of deficits was 353.1 billion won in 2022 and 216.6 billion won in 2023.
This is not the first April Fool's event by CEO Lee Seung-gun. In 2022, he announced that he would provide "Tesla vehicles to employees." Later, he personally lent 10 Tesla Model S and Model 3 vehicles, renting them out for free to selected employees for one year.
