The Korea Exchange stated that it held a seminar on the topic of "How to prepare for the 4th emissions trading system" in conjunction with the Emissions Trading Market Council at the exchange's conference hall on the 21st.
Many officials from the government, academia, and industry attended the seminar. They actively exchanged opinions regarding the anticipated increase in the allocation ratio for paid allocation. The government plans to establish the emissions allocation plan, including total emissions allowance, allocation criteria, and paid allocation ratios, by June in preparation for the implementation of the 4th emissions trading system from 2026 to 2030.
Lee Young-ki, chairperson of the Emissions Trading Market Council, delivered an opening remark at the event, and Kim Ma-ru, a climate economy division chief at the Ministry of Environment, presented on the topic of "Measures to activate the emissions trading system for achieving national greenhouse gas reduction targets (NDC)." NDC refers to the national greenhouse gas reduction targets submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) under the Paris Agreement.
In the subsequent panel discussion, participants included Yoo Seung-jik, a professor at Sookmyung Women's University; Ahn Young-hwan, chairperson of the Climate Change Policy Committee at the Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee; Kim Yong-gun, a professor at Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies; Yoon Yeo-chang, a researcher at the Korea Development Institute; Lee Sang-jun, a professor at Seoul Institute of Technology; Nam Jeong-im, Deputy Minister of the Korea Iron and Steel Association; and Ahn Guk-heon, Deputy Minister of the Korea Petroleum Association (KPA). They discussed the government's allocation plan formulation and measures to revitalize the emissions trading market.
