Ibok-hyeon, the head of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), noted regarding the SAMBU Construction stock manipulation scandal, "I will do everything I can to ensure proper oversight." The FSS has stated it will complete its related investigation this month. Members of the Democratic Party of Korea complimented him, saying, "A public servant is a true public servant; we appreciate your principled handling of affairs."
On the 16th, Ibok-hyeon attended the National Assembly's Legislative and Judiciary Committee meeting and, in response to questions regarding the SAMBU Construction investigation, said, "I know the appropriateness of the FSS investigation will be subject to verification afterwards."
During that day's meeting, there were concerns that the investigation into SAMBU Construction was being hastily concluded. There are various allegations, including connections to Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, suggesting that the FSS is not adequately examining the details.
He explained, "I will utilize the organization's capabilities to ensure that no doubts remain in the investigation."
In response to a question regarding his earlier expression of resignation, he said, "I have not yet submitted my resignation letter." His official term ends on June 6.
He had previously expressed his opposition to the government's veto of the commercial law amendment, stating, "I will put my position on the line." He had submitted his resignation to Financial Services Commission Chairman Kim Byeong-hwan shortly after the government's veto.
In response to Chairperson Jeong Cheong-rae's question, "Are you withdrawing your resignation and saying you will continue to work hard?", he answered, "I have not withdrawn it, but it is true that it has not been processed."
Chairperson Jeong said, "Since you're doing it, I hope you do it earnestly," and Ibok-hyeon responded, "I will do so."
Supportive evaluations of Ibok-hyeon from the Democratic Party of Korea members of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee also emerged. It is interpreted as a high appreciation of Ibok-hyeon's strong advocacy for the legislative need for the commercial law amendment led by the Democratic Party.
Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Park Gyun-taek said, "I haven't seen many public servants worthy of the title in the past administration," adding, "I express my respect for Ibok-hyeon for handling his duties with his own convictions."
