Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, the leading semiconductor companies in the KOSPI, are experiencing weakness at the beginning of the trading day.
According to the Korea Exchange and others on the 16th, as of 9:14 a.m., Samsung Electronics is trading at 56,000 won, down 1.06% (600 won) from the previous trading day.
SK hynix is trading at 176,100 won, down 2.49%.
The stock price of NVIDIA, the leading company in artificial intelligence (AI), plummeted more than 5% in after-hours trading, leading to a decline in investor sentiment for semiconductor companies Samsung Electronics and SK hynix.
NVIDIA announced that on the 9th, it received notification from the U.S. government that it must obtain an 'export permit' if it exports its low-spec AI chip 'H20' to China and certain other countries.
H20 is an AI chip developed by NVIDIA for the Chinese market, created in response to the U.S. Department of Commerce halting exports of major AI chips to China for security reasons in 2022.
Seo Sang-young, a researcher at Mirae Asset Securities, noted that 'concerns about declining revenues for NVIDIA seem to be reflected' and that 'Micron and Broadcom are also experiencing weakness in the 3% range in after-hours trading, indicating that the semiconductor sector as a whole is being affected.'
