HB Investment has recruited Hwang Sang-yeon, former CEO of Chong Kun Dang Holdings, as the head of the new private equity fund (PEF) division (Deputy Minister) as of 1st.
Deputy Minister Hwang earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Department of Chemistry at Seoul National University. He began his career as a researcher at LG CHEM and later gained experience as an investment expert in various fields including technology, finance, and corporate management. After completing his studies at the Graduate School of Business at Seoul National University, he worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Washington.
In 2007, he attracted attention in the industry by being appointed as the youngest research center director at Mirae Asset Securities at the age of 37. Deputy Minister Hwang was recognized as a best analyst for several years due to his analysis and market forecasts in emerging growth industries such as information technology (IT), healthcare, and chemical materials.
At global asset management firm Allianz Global Investors, he served as Chief Investment Officer (CIO), overseeing global investment strategy. He later served as CEO of Chong Kun Dang Holdings, gaining corporate management experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. While working as CEO of Brain Asset Management, he led private equity fund investments and asset management and established a PEF advisory firm overseas, gaining global private equity fund management experience.
An official from HB Investment noted, "Deputy Minister Hwang is a talent with extensive experience as a fund manager and corporate CEO, making him an expert who aligns with the goals of PEF to actively enhance corporate value after investment."
