JLL (Jones Lang LaSalle) Korea successfully held a networking event for data center operators at its Korean headquarters on the 28th, it noted on the 31st.
The event, attended by about 10 operators, featured in-depth discussions on the current status of the domestic data center market and the changing technological demands of data center facilities.
According to JLL Korea, key trends in the domestic data center development market discussed at the event included ▲expansion centered in the metropolitan area ▲market growth led by global cloud service providers (CSPs) ▲the emergence of Ansan and Yongin areas ▲the active role of investment companies with experience in operating overseas data centers. Notably, despite the government’s policies aimed at curbing concentration in the metropolitan area, numerous projects are underway in areas near Seoul, and the development of data centers within national industrial complexes is gaining attention.
Future technology trends included ▲AI-based operational optimization ▲expansion of edge data centers ▲innovation in energy efficiency ▲enhancement of security technologies. In particular, designing infrastructure in preparation for quantum computing and developing sustainable data center operation models were highlighted as important tasks.
Data center operators showed high interest in ▲feasibility studies for site selection ▲establishing balanced partnerships among developers, investors, and operators ▲business planning centered on major tenants ▲enhancing data security. Additionally, establishing operational models that meet global standards, improving energy efficiency, and building eco-friendly data centers that comply with ESG criteria emerged as important requirements.
Min Soo-hee, executive director of the capital markets at JLL Korea, said, "Through this event, JLL sought to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse needs of operators as a data center consulting firm and explore ways to contribute to the growth of the domestic market," adding that "in the future, we will strengthen our consulting capabilities across the entire lifecycle from development to investment and operation to support the successful execution of our clients' projects."
