U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff pressure has risen again, causing shares of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix to fall early in trading on the 28th.
Samsung Electronics shares traded at 60,100 won on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) at 9:15 a.m. that day. The stock price fell by 2.75% (1,700 won) compared to the previous day. A battle continues over the 60,000 won mark.
At the same time, SK hynix shares recorded 200,000 won, down 3.38% (7,000 won) from the previous day. SK hynix briefly fell below the 200,000 won level early in trading.
President Trump mentioned 'flexible tariffs' and then quickly announced a blanket tariff on automobiles, increasing uncertainty and reviving risk-averse sentiment. President Trump has decided to impose a blanket tariff of 25% on imported cars and has announced the mutual tariff announcement on the 2nd.
If the economy slows due to tariffs, it will negatively affect semiconductor demand. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 2.07% overnight on the U.S. New York Stock Exchange, closing lower. Shares of major semiconductor corporations, including NVIDIA, Broadcom, AMD, and Qualcomm, all fell by 2% to 3%.
