Lee Young-sang, the former Administrator of the Incheon Korean National Police Agency, was elected as the chair of the police pension fund with assets under management (AUM) of about 5 trillion won.

According to the investment banking (IB) industry on the 27th, the police pension fund held a delegate meeting the previous day and elected the former Administrator as the new chair.

The chair of the police pension fund had been vacant for 21 months after the resignation of former chair Bae Yong-joo in July 2023, as candidates repeatedly failed to pass the threshold of the delegate meeting.

The police pension fund has submitted the former Administrator's chair appointment proposal to the Korean National Police Agency, and once it receives approval from the Administrator of the Korean National Police Agency, the chair will commence their duties.

Born in 1965, the former Administrator graduated from Yeongju Central High School and Chung-Ang University, and after joining as a police officer, passed the 40th police executive exam in 1992 and was reappointed as a sergeant.

He then served as the chief of the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul, director of the Korean National Police Agency's traffic bureau, and director of the National Investigation Agency's criminal division before being appointed chief of the Incheon Korean National Police Agency in 2023.
