On the 26th, the KOSPI index closed up over 1% for the first time in three days. Major stocks such as semiconductors and automobiles drove the index up, aided by joint net buying from foreign investors and institutions. However, the wait-and-see sentiment appears to persist. That day, the transaction amount in the securities market was around 7 trillion won. As of the 21st, the average daily transaction amount was close to 12 trillion won. In the KOSDAQ market, shares related to Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung surged after he was acquitted in the appeal trial.
On that day, the KOSPI index finished at 2,643.94, up 28.13 points (1.08%) from the previous day. The index opened at 2,628.09, rising 12.28 points (0.47%) compared to the previous trading day and successfully touched the 2,640 line. However, transaction amounts remained around 7.5 trillion won.
The joint net buying from foreign investors and institutions led the index's rise. Foreigners and institutions purchased 348.3 billion won and 260.6 billion won worth of stocks, respectively. Individuals sold a net 682.1 billion won.
Stocks in the manufacturing sector, particularly semiconductors and automobiles, led the market. Among the top KOSPI market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix rose over 2%, closing strong. Hyundai Motor and Kia continued their upward momentum from the previous day. Kim Ji-won, a researcher at KB Securities, noted, "Despite concerns over a management void and tax collection issues for its Indian subsidiary, Samsung Electronics showed strong performance over 2%, recovering losses from the previous two days."
Analysts noted that after short-term profit-taking, net buying resumed for semiconductor stocks. Lee Jae-won, a researcher at Shinhan Investment Corp, explained, "In the case of Samsung Electronics stock, profit-taking occurred over two trading days after entering a short-term overbought zone, and after exiting the overbought zone, buying pressure re-entered."
LG Energy Solution rose by more than 7.3% after Koo Kwang-mo, chairman of LG Group, expressed his intention to expand the battery business. In a written greeting at the LG regular shareholders' meeting that day, Chairman Koo stated, "Industries like batteries are crucial for the country's future and will be vital to the group's core business and must grow." He added, "We will continue to create innovative solutions in next-generation batteries and process technologies to overcome market and technological challenges."
The KOSDAQ index also finished at 716.48, up 5.22 points (0.73%) from the previous day. While clear upward factors remain ambiguous, stocks showed strength based on individual issues. Individuals sold a net 131 billion won, whereas foreigners and institutions net bought 63.9 billion won and 66.9 billion won, respectively.
In the KOSDAQ market, the top stocks showed mixed performance. Ecopro BM, Ecopro, Rainbow Robotics, and Kolon TissueGene closed higher. HLB, Sam Chun Dang Pharm, HUGEL, and LigaChem Biosciences finished slightly lower.
Political theme stocks also experienced volatility following the court ruling. That afternoon, the Seoul High Court held an appeal trial for the election law violation case and acquitted Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung. The news that the initial ruling was overturned by 180 degrees triggered an immediate reaction from 'Lee Jae-myung theme stocks.' Orient Precision Industries, Orient Bio, Dongsin Construction, e-STARCO, and others quickly hit the upper price limit.
