Following DOUZONE, Ubank will not participate in the preliminary application for the 4th Internet Specialized Bank on the 25th. Ubank, which has been considered a strong candidate, noted that it plans to reconsider the application timing for the second half of this year.
Kim Seong-jun, the representative of Lendit participating in the Ubank consortium, said in a press release on the 17th, "In the current rapidly changing social and political environment, we have quickly discussed matters internally within the consortium," and made this statement. He noted, "It was a difficult decision, but the participating companies quickly agreed that it would be best to proceed in a more stable environment from a strategic perspective."
The Ubank consortium includes fintech companies Lendit, Lunit, Jobis & Villains (Samjeomsam), Travel Wallet, and Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance.
Kim noted, "This announcement is one of the processes for establishing an internet bank, not a withdrawal," and added, "The application timing will be determined after sufficient consultation with financial authorities."
