The electronic components manufacturing company Sonid is pursuing defense technology cooperation with a Polish robotics company.
Sonid noted that the technical team from the Polish robotics company, PIAP, visited South Korea to discuss defense technology cooperation plans with its subsidiary, Defense Korea.
The Polish state-owned industrial automation research institute, PIAP, is a military robotics developer. Its explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robot, "PIAP GRYF," has been supplied to the South Korean Navy and Marine Corps.
Currently, Defense Korea is responsible for the domestic maintenance of the EOD robot developed by PIAP, and Sonid and PIAP have jointly developed bomb detection and mine removal robots.
Sonid stated, "Poland is expected to serve as a logistics hub for reconstruction projects, being adjacent to Ukraine," and added, "Discussions are ongoing regarding the visit of the Polish robotics partner's management and government officials to South Korea."
He also said, "Based on the collaborative development history of EOD robots with PIAP, it is expected that Sonid's explosive detection and mine detection equipment will be installed in the robots needed for future reconstruction projects."
