Meta Platforms, Inc. is reportedly considering acquiring the Korean artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor design startup Furiosa AI, leading to a surge in the stock prices of the venture capital (VC) firms that initially invested in Furiosa AI.
DSC Investment's stock price was 3,730 won at 9:09 a.m. on the 12th, up 29.97% (860 won) from the previous day. At the same time, T.S. Investment's stock price also rose 29.95% (277 won) to 1,202 won compared to the previous day. Both stocks went directly to the upper limit (maximum daily price limit) right after the market opened.
It appears that investors are flocking to the news of Meta's acquisition consideration because DSC Investment and T.S. Investment invested in Furiosa AI early on.
The U.S. economic media Forbes quoted sources saying that Meta is discussing the acquisition of Furiosa AI and that negotiations could be concluded as early as this month on the 11th (local time).
Furiosa AI is a fabless corporation specializing in designing AI semiconductors for data centers, established in 2017 by CEO Baek Jun-ho, who is from Samsung Electronics and AMD. After launching its first AI semiconductor, 'Warboy,' in 2021, it unveiled its next-generation AI semiconductor, 'Renegade' (RNGD), in August of last year.
