The KOSPI and KOSDAQ indices rose slightly on the morning of the 10th. The KOSPI index exceeded the 2520 level during the session. Although U.S. President Donald Trump said he would impose a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum, resulting in renewed concerns about "tariff risks," the market appears to be absorbing the shock.
As of 11:40 a.m. on the same day, the KOSPI index increased by 0.12% (2.99 points) to 2524.91 compared to the previous trading day. Institutional investors purchased a net of 48.5 billion won, leading the market. Retail investors and foreigners are net selling 2.4 billion won and 66.2 billion won, respectively.
The stocks with the highest market capitalization in the securities market are showing mixed trends. Samsung Electronics, LG Energy Solution, and NAVER are rising slightly. SK hynix, Samsung Biologics, Hyundai Motor, Celltrion, and Kia are showing a downward trend.
Earlier, U.S. President Trump noted that tariffs on steel and aluminum would be imposed, reigniting concerns about the "Trump-induced tariff risk." Trump announced on the 10th (local time) aboard Air Force One, heading to New Orleans for the Super Bowl, that he would announce a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imported into the U.S.
Concerns about increased market volatility led to a decline in the KOSPI and KOSDAQ indices at the start of the day, but they rebounded during the morning, expanding their gains. The KOSPI index opened down 0.45% (11.28 points) at 2510.64 and briefly fell to 2499.18 during the session. The KOSDAQ index also opened at 740.12, down 0.37% compared to the previous trading day.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index recorded 747.98, up 5.08 points (0.68%). In the KOSDAQ market, individuals purchased 148 billion won and institutions bought 18 billion won, leading the index rise. Foreigners are net selling 156.4 billion won.
The stocks with the highest market capitalization in the KOSDAQ market are generally on a downward trend. Shares of Alteogen, ECOPRO BM, HLB, Rainbow Robotics, LigaChem Biosciences, and Sam Chun Dang Pharm are falling, while Ecopro, LEENO Industrial, and HUGEL are rising.
