As of 9:10 a.m. on that day, the KOSPI index recorded 2,525.11, up 4.06 points (0.16%) from the previous day. The KOSPI index started the day at 2,526.10, up 0.20%, but then fluctuated, dropping to 2,517.26. Previously, the KOSPI index had closed higher for four consecutive trading days since the 3rd of this month.
In the securities market, foreigners and individuals are net buying 1.126 trillion won and 451 billion won, respectively. Institutions, however, net sold 1.566 trillion won.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, all except SK Hynix (2.98%), Kia (1.98%), and Hyundai Motor (1.17%) are falling. LG Energy Solution is down 1.61%, and Samsung Biologics and Samsung Electronics are down 0.89% and 0.70%, respectively. Naver (-0.48%), KB Financial (-0.35%), Samsung Electronics Preferred (-0.32%), and Celltrion (-0.05%) are also showing slight declines.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is trading at 715.9, down 3.73 points (0.52%) from the previous day. The KOSDAQ index started trading down 0.10% at 718.89. In the KOSDAQ market, foreigners and institutions are net selling 198 billion won and 92 billion won, respectively, while individuals are net buying 322 billion won.
The top stocks by market capitalization on the KOSDAQ are also weak. Enchem and LigaChem Biosciences are down nearly 2%, and ECOPRO BM (-1.83%), Alteogen (-1.77%), and Ecopro (-1.53%) are also declining. Samchundang Pharmaceutical and HUGEL are steady, while CLASSYS and HLB are slightly up by 0.40% and 0.13%, respectively.
On that day, the exchange rate for the won against the U.S. dollar opened at 1,458.6 won, up 3.6 won from the previous day.
Overnight, the U.S. stock market closed steady. On the 8th (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 40,635.20, up 0.25% from the previous trading day. The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed at 5,918.25, up 0.16% from the previous trading day, while the NASDAQ index recorded a decline of 0.06%, closing at 19,478.88.
Following Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, stating that it will take 20 years for useful quantum computers to emerge, shares related to quantum computing, such as IonQ and Rigetti, plummeted by around 40%. The stocks referred to as the 'Magnificent Seven' (NVIDIA, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Alphabet, Tesla) all closed in a steady range.
