Stocks related to glass substrates showed strength during the morning session on the 7th. This seems to be influenced by renewed interest in the artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor market coinciding with the opening of the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, 'CES 2025,' held in Las Vegas, USA.

HB Technology shares traded at 2,585 won in the Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (KOSDAQ) market at 9:26 a.m. the same day. The stock price rose by 21.08% (450 won) compared to the previous day. HB Technology supplies inspection equipment for semiconductor glass substrates.

At the same time, YCCHEM, Philoptics, and others also recorded double-digit stock price increases. The two companies are engaged in respectively producing glass substrate materials and cutting equipment. Additionally, SKC, Chemtronics, and Taesung are also performing well.

Glass substrates refer to using glass instead of organic materials like conventional plastics for semiconductor substrates. They are evaluated to be thinner than existing substrates and provide better power efficiency, as well as strong resistance to heat and bending.

The stock prices of glass substrate-related stocks have moved in a similar direction to those of semiconductor stocks. Following NVIDIA setting a new all-time high overnight, the positive momentum seems to extend to domestic glass substrate stocks. Jensen Huang, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NVIDIA, will deliver the keynote speech at CES that day.

Recently, Microsoft (MS) announced plans to expand its capital expenditure (CAPEX) for AI this year, while Taiwan's Foxconn is also expected to report strong performance and a positive outlook, factors attributed to boosting investor sentiment in glass substrates.
