This year in the KOSDAQ market, general services and pharmaceuticals showed strong performance, but most sectors experienced weakness, resulting in a decrease in market capitalization and transaction volume.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 30th, the KOSDAQ index closed at 678 points, down 21.7% from the end of last year (867 points) on the last transaction day of this year.
In the KOSDAQ market, general services and pharmaceuticals increased by 13.1% and 11.7%, respectively. However, most sectors showed weakness, including textiles and clothing (-51.3%), electronics (-49.3%), finance (-43.6%), and machinery and equipment (-39.0%).
Market capitalization at the end of this year was 340 trillion won, down 92 trillion won from the end of the previous year. This represents a decline of about 21.2%. A spokesperson for the exchange noted, “Despite active new listings, the overall market weakness resulted in a decrease in market capitalization compared to last year.”
The average daily transaction amount was 8.4 trillion won, down 16.3% from the end of last year (10 trillion won). The transaction volume also shrank from 1.12 billion shares during the same period to 970 million shares, a decrease of 13.5%.
By investor type, foreign investors and individual investors showed net buying, while institutional investors exhibited a net selling trend. Foreign investors purchased a net of 1.3 trillion won last year and bought an additional 1.5 trillion won this year. Individuals also bought 8 trillion won last year and 6.4 trillion won this year. Institutions sold a net of 5.3 trillion won last year and followed that up with 4.4 trillion won in sales this year.
A total of 128 corporations were newly listed this year, which is four fewer than the previous year. The amount raised through public offerings decreased from 2.8 trillion won to 2.4 trillion won, a reduction of 400 billion won.
Specifically, the number of corporations listed through technical exceptions increased from 35 to 42, while the number of special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) listings rose from 37 to 40. However, general listings fell from 60 to 46.
