The Korea Institute of Certified Public Accountants noted on the 13th that it held a ceremony commemorating its 70th anniversary on the 11th at the Grand Ballroom of the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam, Seoul, attended by more than 450 guests, including certified public accountant members.

During the ceremony, various performances celebrating the 70th anniversary were held, including an introduction to the history of accounting documentary trailer, a VR (virtual reality) metaverse performance, awards for accounting contributors, and a congratulatory performance by the music club 'CPA Band'.

Chairperson Choi Woon-yeol said in his commemorative speech, “The role and responsibility of certified public accountants have been expanded as a result of the establishment of the 'External Audit Act' and were further strengthened by the 'New External Audit Act,' commonly known as accounting reform. In the future, we will actively promote the establishment of the Basic Accounting Act, support the preparation of a government certification system necessary for the mandatory disclosure of sustainability (ESG), and train ESG certification experts to further develop the accounting industry in preparation for the future.”

The establishment of the Basic Accounting Act is a proposal to systematically manage various accounting-related laws currently scattered across different fields.

Meanwhile, at the ceremony, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party, conveyed congratulatory messages via video. Guests included Lee Yoon-soo, Chairperson of the Financial Services Commission's Capital Market Board, Yoon Jeong-sook, Commissioner of the Financial Supervisory Service's Accounting Professional Review Committee, Yoon Jeung-hyeon, Chairperson of the Honorary Accounting Professionals Hall Committee, Seo Yoo-seok, Chairperson of the Korea Financial Investment Association, Oh Hwa-gyeong, Chairperson of the Korea Federation of Savings Banks, Jeong Wan-kyu, Chairperson of the Credit Finance Association, and others. Also in attendance were Jean Bouquot, Chairperson of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), and former chairpersons of the Korea Institute of Certified Public Accountants, including Seo Tae-sik, Kang Seong-won, Choi Joong-kyung, and Kim Young-sik, along with representatives from accounting firms.
