National team members involved in the Gangnam assault dispute, Mr. A and Mr. B, were former national tennis player Lee Hyung-taek and former taekwondo athlete Lee Dae-hoon.
On the 14th, a video titled "Economic stories you can listen to while lying in bed, Kim Gu Ra economic research lab" was posted on the YouTube channel "GreeGura."
In response to reactions suggesting that celebrities were asking about profitable stock investment picks, Kim Gu Ra said, "Twenty years ago, celebrities would, if they were in the waiting room during a shoot, talk about what happened the day before. It wasn't anything special."
He continued, "But now there is no one in the waiting room who talks about themselves. If you talk, it spreads by hearsay and it's a structure that easily leads to controversy."
Kim Gu Ra added, "Lee Hyung-taek appeared on 'Radio Star.' At that time there was gossip that Lee Hyung-taek had brawled with taekwondo athlete Lee Dae-hoon. The story was that the two drank, and Lee Hyung-taek put an apple on his head as part of a bet, and Lee Dae-hoon, while drunk, moved his leg and hit him — that kind of story circulated."
But it turned out not to be true. Kim Gu Ra explained, "Lee Hyung-taek came on 'Radio Star' and explained that he had been just standing still. The two had been drinking heavily and someone saw them fall while trying to hail a taxi. From that someone saw it and said that Lee Hyung-taek and Lee Dae-hoon had fought."
He added, "So these days people don't talk. Aren't you the same? You don't tell all the details to a friend."
Earlier, reports had said that an assault incident occurred in the middle of Gangnam, Seoul, in 2024. It was reported that those involved were former athletes who had appeared together on an entertainment program.
At the time, the Gangnam police in Seoul said they were investigating and had brought in former national taekwondo athlete Mr. A for questioning on suspicion of assault. The man in his 30s, Mr. A, was accused of assaulting Mr. B during an argument while they were drinking together in Gangnam the previous day.
Fortunately, Mr. B, who was taken to the hospital, was not seriously injured and was reported to have returned home on his own. However, the police said Mr. B was heavily intoxicated at the time and the investigation could not be properly conducted, so they accompanied Mr. A voluntarily and said they would continue the investigation later.
Because Mr. A and Mr. B were respectively a former national taekwondo athlete and a famous former tennis player, and the hint that they had appeared together on an entertainment program, the individuals were quickly narrowed down. However, only an explanation that an onlooker who saw someone falling on their way home misunderstood and reported it came out, with their real names not disclosed.
The story will be revealed on MBC's "Radio Star," which airs on the 16th.
