Actor Angelina Jolie's eldest son Maddox has legally removed Brad Pitt's surname.
On the 14th (local time), according to U.S. entertainment outlet Page Six, a Los Angeles judge approved the petition of 25-year-old Maddox, legally changing his name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.
Court records state, "There being no objection, the petition to change the name is granted." With this, Maddox officially removed the famous father's surname "Pitt." Ultimately, Maddox, following his younger sibling Shiloh, who received approval to remove the surname "Pitt" in 2024, officially erased his father's surname.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivien. But after the two divorced, the children not only grew distant from their father, they have been taking turns legally removing their father's surname from their names.
After Shiloh, Maddox received legal approval, and Zahara also filed a petition this year to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie and is scheduled for a name-change hearing on the 28th. Zahara was previously introduced on stage as Zahara Marley Jolie when she graduated from Spelman College in May. They also ran notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal for four consecutive weeks to remove the surname "Pitt."
Vivien likewise filed paperwork with the Los Angeles Superior Court just days after celebrating her 18th birthday in July, requesting that her father's surname be removed from her legal name. Vivien used the name "Vivien Jolie" during a Broadway production she co-produced with her mother in 2024. The twin sibling Knox also removed Pitt from their surname on their high school diploma.
As the six children have sequentially removed the surname "Pitt," Jolie recently told L'Officiel USA in an interview, "The kids know me very well and know every side of me. My children are certainly independent individuals. That makes me very proud. As a parent, the most important thing is not to obstruct their path."
