Hollywood actor Tom Holland (30) has written a historic record as the actor with the highest cumulative revenue in world film history after scoring back-to-back major summer blockbusters.
According to a report by the Daily Mail on the 14th (local time), Tom Holland rose to the top spot as the actor with the highest cumulative global box office thanks to the explosive box office performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, which were released this summer.
Both films truly triggered a megahit surge. Spider-Man: Brand New Day surpassed $2.45 billion in global cumulative audience revenue through the 13th, or about 3.2 trillion won, and The Odyssey also earned $1.68 billion in global revenue, or about 2.2 trillion won.
This brought the cumulative box office aggregates of films featuring Tom Holland to a staggering $15.5 billion, or about 20.5 trillion won, overtaking previous first and second place holders Zoë Saldana ($15.46 billion) and Scarlett Johansson ($15.4 billion) to claim the top throne.
In particular, Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved the feat of ranking third on the list of all-time worldwide box office hits. It is closely trailing 1st place Avatar ($2.92 billion) and 2nd place Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion). Its North American score also surpassed $935 million, setting a new record as the second-highest North American grosser after Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Attention is also focused on the size of Holland's pay and revenue shares (backend bonuses) he will receive from this blockbuster success. According to local media reports, in addition to a base $20 million for the new Spider-Man, Holland is expected to earn at least $100 million in total revenue, or about 13.2 billion won, after running guarantee bonuses are added.
When he first appeared as Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland received $250,000, or about 330 million won, and his price rose exponentially through Spider-Man: Homecoming ($500,000), Far From Home ($4 million), and No Way Home ($10 million).
Hollywood insiders compare Holland's steep rise to Robert Downey Jr.'s trajectory, who once pocketed huge bonuses as Iron Man, with some saying Holland has "become the new Robert Downey Jr."
