After passing the 10 million viewer mark, the film "The Odyssey," which has continued its unstoppable box office run, surpassed the cumulative audience of "Interstellar" on Friday the 11th, becoming director Christopher Nolan's highest-grossing film domestically, and has written a new chapter in box office history by achieving the remarkable feats of six consecutive weekends at No. 1 on the overall box office and 40 consecutive days at No. 1 on the overall box office.
According to the integrated computer network for movie theater tickets, since its opening on Aug. 5, "The Odyssey" recorded 40 consecutive days at No. 1 on the overall box office through Sept. 13 without relinquishing the top spot even for a single day. With this, "The Odyssey" surpassed the 35 consecutive days at No. 1 records held by "Avatar: The Way of Water" and "Suzume's Locking Up the Door" and became the longest-running consecutive No. 1 overall box office foreign film released domestically since 2010.
Furthermore, over the three days of the sixth weekend from Sept. 11 to Sept. 13, during its sixth week in theaters, it drew 449,039 viewers and secured the No. 1 spot on the weekend overall box office for six consecutive weeks. At the start of its seventh week, "The Odyssey," which continues to rank first in pre-sales by a commanding margin, is demonstrating an unwaning box office momentum as word of mouth drives repeat viewing trends. Attention is focused on what additional box office records "The Odyssey," consistently chosen by audiences since its opening, will set in the future.
Even after passing the 10 million mark, "The Odyssey," which has been breaking new records daily and showing remarkable box office strength, is expected to comfortably pass 11 million, and there is growing interest in whether it can reach 12 million or 13 million.
