Actor Jung Jun-won directly spoke out about the wave of criticism over his attitude after appearing on Hangout With Yoo.
On the morning of the 14th, at a cafe in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, an interview was held to mark the conclusion of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama A Bona fide Killer with actor Jung Jun-won. In the drama, Jung Jun-won played Kwon Tae-seong, a devoted husband and a social affairs reporter, leaving a deep impression with his distinctive gentle smile and life-centered acting.
That day Jung Jun-won expressed gratitude over A Bona fide Killer ending with its highest ratings, saying, "I am very thankful, and the biggest feeling is gratitude that it seems to have ended well."
However, Jung Jun-won became embroiled in an attitude controversy after appearing on Hangout With Yoo for promotional purposes at the start of the broadcast. Asked whether he had struggled emotionally because of the stories swirling outside the drama, he said, "I have no experience with improv-based variety shows. So I appeared for the purpose of promoting the work, but I used to enjoy the program regularly, and I am such a fan of senior Yu Jae-seok that I was very nervous, which is true."
He apologized, saying, "I think I suddenly kind of broke down while feeling a strong urge to do everything perfectly. My mind went blank so I actually couldn't do anything, and I feel sorry because that may have made viewers feel uncomfortable."
Asked whether Yu Jae-seok, Kong Hyojin and others gave him any advice after the recording, he said, "I apologized when I was on site anyway, and I think the production staff tried to make it fun. In that process, it seems some viewers felt uncomfortable."
He added, "Senior Yu Jae-seok and senior Kong Hyojin told me not to worry. From next time, I think there are parts where I need to try not to make the same mistake."
Jung Jun-won said, "I was so nervous that I hardly remember that day. I told them my stomach was churning," and added, "If I were given another chance, I would like to make up for it. If I go back with my current memories, I will try to calm down as much as possible and do my best."
Jung Jun-won said, "Because of the nature of this variety show, it seemed to require improvisation, and I realized I am weak in that area. I think I need to try to create opportunities to raise my skills by gaining various experiences."
