'Boss in the Mirror' band FTISLAND member Lee Hong-gi spoke about the humiliation of his bandmates' lack of recognition during their debut days.
Lee Hong-gi made a surprise appearance on the KBS 2TV variety show 'Boss in the Mirror,' broadcast on the afternoon of the 13th, to support junior band N.Flying's concert. He brought snacks for the juniors practicing for the show and, as a senior, did not hold back honest advice.
The N.Flying members who warmly welcomed Lee Hong-gi subtly mentioned complaints about leader Lee Seung-hyub. The members said, "When we do something like a song, we finish it, but if you don't match it and take it on the spot, there are many times we get flustered," referring to awkward situations.
In response, Lee Hong-gi said with a laugh, "What's a band's advantage? It's authenticity. People might expect to see us adjust on the spot," and added, "Why is the frontman the frontman? The person in front has a better view than you in the very back, right?"
Lee Hong-gi advised as a senior, "What does the frontman have to do? If you say prepare because you don't know what the venue atmosphere will be like today, you have to do it no matter what."
He continued, "These days what we do is, for example, if we have to perform 10 songs, we take 20 backup songs," and the N.Flying members cautiously laughed, saying, "Please refrain from saying things like that."
Lee Hong-gi also asked about N.Flying's appearances on variety shows, saying, "How did you end up doing variety shows like this? You're not the variety type, are you?"
Lee Seung-hyub said, "We were making a comeback and wanted to try everything in various ways. I honestly didn't have the confidence to go out alone, and I thought it would be fun to do it together with the members."
Lee Hong-gi said, "Does FTISLAND think that except for me the members have no recognition? I had no choice but to go on variety shows, so I went. Because only I went on, people only know me. They don't know the members well," saying that FTISLAND members had low recognition at debut.
Lee Hong-gi said, "When I was young there were so many variety shows that I did three a day. And there were many big talk shows. There were so many like 'Star King,' 'Star Golden Bell,' and 'Se-bakwe.' In the past they gave out things like gold," and revealed the episode, "I won on 'Ten thousand won of happiness' and received gold, but they told me to share it with the members. I was so, so angry that while handing it out to the members I said, 'Take it. You said you don't want to do variety,'" drawing attention.
