'Tazza4' Roh Jae Won confessed that he copied Byun Yo-Han's every move for the character.
On the afternoon of the 14th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview was held with Byun Yo-Han, the lead actor of the film Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub (Tazza4).
Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, which concludes the Tazza series (directed by Choi Guk-hee, distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Sidus), was made based on the original comic by Heo Yeong. It is a crime drama in which Jang Tae-young (played by Byun Yo-Han), who thought he had the world through an online casino business, and his close friend with the same name Park Tae-young (played by Roh Jae Won), who took everything from him, meet again on a global gambling stage and play a game of revenge. It was made based on Heo Yeong's original comic and is the work that concludes the 20-year series.
Tazza began with the 2006 release starring Cho Seung-woo and Kim Hye-soo, and continued with Tazza: The Hand of God (2014) and Tazza: One-Eyed Jack (2019), winning much love. The new Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, released after seven years, has an original worldview and individuality. It vividly depicts a global gambling stage that travels among Korea, Japan and Vietnam, and in addition to gambling, the flashy world of hold'em sports is also a viewing point.
Roh Jae Won plays Park Tae-young, who, despite an unhappy family background, enters Seoul National University and succeeds with his close friend Jang Tae-young in the online casino business. But he becomes jealous of the lucky Jang Tae-young and reveals extreme psychopathic traits when he betrays him. Roh Jae Won reunited with Byun Yo-Han after Uncle SamSik in 2024, and through Tazza4 he took on his first commercial film lead role.
He said, "I first met senior Byun Yo-Han during Uncle SamSik, and I was very much a newcomer then. I was so glad to see the actor in front of me telling me to do well. That led to our continued connection," and added, "One day long before Tazza, when we had no relationship through a project, senior Byun Yo-Han told me, 'I respect your acting and I like it very much. I hope you'll be a lead someday. I look forward to that and you are more than capable.' And a year later we met through Tazza4. It was very moving."
He continued, "At our first meeting with the families, senior Byun Yo-Han said, 'I'm going to act until I die. I will win with acting.' He told me, 'I hope you act with that kind of spirit too.' He actually kept that tension on set," and said, "We were friendly but there was tension between us. I think we saved some for later conflict. To me, senior Byun Yo-Han was Jang Tae-young himself."
Roh Jae Won, who said he was jealous of Byun Yo-Han's acting, said, "There was a cut scene where Park Tae tried to imitate Jang Tae. I secretly copied him even offset. I would go to the wardrobe truck and try to see 'what did hyung wear?' I tried to copy his attitude and the way he approached acting because our styles were so different. Even if the temperature might have been similar, the way of living and looking at things were very different. I learned and realized a lot from that, and I tried to imitate his attitude. I eavesdropped on conversations between him and the director behind the monitor, joked with the manager, 'What does hyung eat?' and if he said he ate salad I would say I ate salad too. Everything resonated with my insecurity and jealous envy, and that translated into the care I put into approaching the role of Park Tae," he revealed his efforts.
