'Tazza 4' Byun Yo-Han admitted that he went to the emergency room while losing more than 10kg for the film.
On the morning of the 14th, an interview with the film Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub (Tazza 4) lead actor Byun Yo-Han was held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The series finale Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub (director Choi Guk-hee, distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Sidus) was made based on the original comic of the same name by Heo Yeong. It is a crime story in which Jang Tae-young (played by Byun Yo-Han), who thought he owned the world through an online casino business, and his close friend with the same name Park Tae-young (played by Roh Jae Won), who took everything from him, meet again on a global gambling stage and wage a single game of revenge.
Earlier, the legendary Tazza Goni (played by Cho Seung-woo), the talkative Go Gwang-ryeol (played by Yoo Hai Jin), Agwi (played by Kim Yun-seok), and Jjak-gwi (played by Joo Jin-mo) from Tazza (2006) influenced the sequel Tazza: The Hand of God (2014) character Ham Dae-gil (played by Choi Seung-hyun), and Tazza: One-Eyed Jack (2019) character Do Il-chul (played by Park Jeongmin), Jjak-gwi's son. If the three films released over 20 years shared the same universe, the final installment Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub has a completely independent universe. A wholly different era and space unfold with original and exciting stories of characters never seen before.
Byun Yo-Han played Jang Tae-young, who has natural luck and animalistic instincts that let him control the table and run a successful path. He showcased poker games using cards and holdem, lost more than 10kg, and delivered a passionate performance including not only the external transformation but also handling explicit bed scenes with Japanese actress Ayaka. In addition, Byun Yo-Han completed a marriage registration in February this year with Girls' Generation member Tiffany Young without a separate wedding, becoming legally married. The couple drew attention by becoming spouses two months after going public with their relationship.
Byun Yo-Han underwent two nude scenes in the film and said, "It's all my butt. (laughter) I wanted to show Jang Tae-young's experience from the body's changes. The original work was like that too," and added, "When he was well fed and living abundantly, that physique suited him, but after time passed he had to build a strong body, so I almost died. It was really very hard. I usually weigh over 80 kilograms, and that's my regular body. As I got older, that felt comfortable. But the director gave me the homework to go on a diet, and I worked so hard that I went to the emergency room. I think it was too much of an overexertion."
He continued, "I went to the emergency room, but even so it felt good. I wanted nothing to happen and to protect it until crank-up, and when I was discharged I felt good," adding, "Actually, the weight-loss period was short. It took about five months, and the reason I went to the emergency room was hypoglycemic shock. You should lose weight while eating well, but because an obsession developed I did that. Time kept approaching, and I had to use the energy the body accepts, but I exceeded it a lot. So in many ways I think it's a noble spirit toward the work," praising himself and drawing laughter.
He said he did not receive Wegovy or Mounjaro injections, "I'm allergic so I can't be given just any medicine. Even during leg surgery I endured with a single painless injection and couldn't receive antibiotics. Those things are scary. Rather than Mounjaro, I actually prefer pain and labor," and added, "Now I have recovered my weight and it's about 77kg."
Meanwhile, Tazza 4 opens on the 23rd.
