Actor Han Chae-rin mentioned her goals as an actor as she wrapped up A Bona fide Killer.
On the 10th afternoon at the OSEN building in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, an end-of-series interview with Han Chae-rin of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama A Bona fide Killer was held.
Han Chae-rin played Gu Hae-na, a passionate rookie reporter and junior to Nottoday social affairs reporter Kwon Tae-seong (Jung Jun-won). From a fresh image to running across crime scenes and the process of growing into a justice-driven reporter, she added vitality to the drama as the early-career reporter Gu Hae-na.
On the day, Han Chae-rin said of finishing the project, "First, this was my first bright role, so I am very grateful to the work that gave me the character Hae-na. It's so sad that it's ending, and I watched the work with gratitude until the end."
How did she conceive the character to realize rookie reporter Gu Hae-na? She said, "First, externally in the original, Hae-na braids her hair to the side. I kept the braid as is but pinned it up so it wouldn't interfere with the job of a reporter. As a reporter, I tried to fill in why I wanted to become a reporter, the inner side. With a sense of mission and responsibility and because Hae-na is a passionate character, I tried to build those things one by one."
She continued, "Hae-na is a character that can't be discussed without passion. I tried to act with passion. I thought Hae-na was a dynamic character, so I always tried to show that she quickly figures things out. In that sense, I thought Hae-na's passion resembled my passion as an actor. In the process of learning and figuring things out as a rookie reporter, I felt a sense of kinship with the process of filling myself as an actor. It was a character that helped solidify my passion."
On the difference between Han Chae-rin the person and Gu Hae-na of A Bona fide Killer, she said, "If you look at MBTI, Hae-na is totally E (extrovert), and I am I (introvert). I tried to act more like an E. She likes going out and always maintains a bright tension," adding, "In that sense, my brighter side came out too. She was a character that brought out my bright side without my realizing it."
She added, "I always tried to 'pull up~' and bring out as much of the bright side as possible. While trying to bring that out, I acted, and because Hae-na is so bubbly, I physically exercised or listened to music to raise my tension."
Asked what kind of actor she wants to be in the future, Han Chae-rin said, "I want to be an actor who does not lose her initial intent and who does not lose gratitude. I also want to become an actor people trust to watch. I don't want to lose this passion."
One of the representative 'reliable actors' Han Chae-rin mentioned is Kong Hyojin, the lead of A Bona fide Killer. About this, Han Chae-rin confessed, "Actually, it's such an honor to work with a senior, and inside the work I chase the kingfisher. Just being with that person made me very thankful and honored as an actor."
When asked what kind of work A Bona fide Killer would remain as for her, Han Chae-rin explained, "Hae-na is a chick that has broken out of an egg, and I also walked like a chick that broke out of the egg in the system of being an actor; I have also just started learning," adding, "Watching Hae-na gave me strength, and I am grateful that the work entrusted to me was given to me."
