Former professional baseball player turned broadcaster Hwang Jae-gyun has finally shed his chuno look.
On the 13th at Suwon KT Wiz Park, during the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League game between the KT Wiz and the Lotte Giants, Hwang Jae-gyun's retirement ceremony was held.
Hwang Jae-gyun donned the KT Wiz uniform for the first time in a while and swung a bat. As he began batting practice, he still displayed a fierce hitting touch, prompting admiring jokes such as "Can't you not retire?" among on-site personnel watching, including manager Lee Kang-chul.
In particular, Hwang Jae-gyun, who during his playing days could not have long hair, had grown long hair and slimmed down by 18kg, earning nicknames such as "chuno" and "Jang Chen," but he has now shaken off those nicknames.
On that day Hwang appeared with his long hair neatly cut. His gaunt face was gone, and he attracted attention with a noticeably younger appearance.
The retirement ceremony had been postponed from its originally scheduled date. Hwang had prepared commemorative items worth about 6 million won, including a bat and a commemorative uniform engraved with the retirement ceremony date, and waited only for the ceremony, but because the event was postponed due to the heat wave, everything he had prepared went to waste.
Earlier on MBC's The Managerial Point of View, Hwang Jae-gyun, suffering aftereffects from body profile shoots and the postponement of his retirement ceremony, produced a bittersweet scene of nonstop binge eating of pizza and spaghetti, donuts and snacks.
Meanwhile, KT themed the event on Hwang Jae-gyun's walk-up song "Europe: The Final Countdown" from his playing days and held the retirement event in two parts with fans.
