A German influencer has stirred controversy for being a public nuisance after posting videos in which he blasts speakers and performs backflips in South Korea's subways and on roads.
Recently, German influencer Strichbruder posted on his personal SNS account videos showing him boarding Seoul subway cars carrying portable speakers and DJ equipment, turning up the music loudly and dancing.
In the released footage, a person was seen holding a portable speaker and playing music loudly inside a subway car packed with passengers. When the loud music suddenly started, some subway riders appeared visibly startled, and when filming began they covered their faces, expressing discomfort.
However, the influencer did not relent and went out onto the platform to play music and perform a backflip. He was also seen turning on speakers and DJing in various parts of the city beyond the subway.
But the fact that the locations were inside a subway where etiquette is important or on roads where vehicles pass has intensified the public nuisance controversy. In particular, some drivers expressed displeasure by sounding their horns at his performance occupying the roadway.
Domestic netizens who saw this also reacted with comments such as "Is Korea a playground?", "Does he think Korea is a joke, what's with him?", "Do that in his own country, this is such a public nuisance", and "I don't know why he is like that," expressing the view that it was a public nuisance.
In fact, Seoul Metro, which operates the Seoul subway, displays etiquette rules on screens to emphasize courteous subway use. According to those etiquette rules, phones should be set to vibration mode, calls should be short and in a low voice, and when listening to music passengers must use earphones and keep the volume low. However, the influencer has drawn criticism for completely ignoring these subway etiquette rules.
Meanwhile, Strichbruder is an influencer with 1.25 million SNS followers and has released similar content in several countries overseas as well.<
