Comedian Mija confessed that she suffered from depression in the past.
Mija chatted with netizens on her social media on the 13th. A netizen said, "At 35, life not going as planned is so hard."
In response, Mija said, "When I was 35, I went through a period of depression and, after three years, painfully came out into the world."
She added, "Even part-time jobs wouldn't hire me because of my age. But it definitely passes," offering encouragement.
Mija previously appeared on Channel A's "Geumjjok Counseling Center" and opened up about the painful times she had gone through. Her mother, actress Jeon Seong-ae, said of her daughter Mija, "She is introverted outside and extroverted at home. Whenever she went out, she couldn't speak and went through difficult times," and, wiping away tears, said, "I don't know if I should be saying this.." then said, "(Mija) went through an extremely difficult period during her career as a comedian."
Because she majored in art while her colleagues majored in comedy, Jeon Seong-ae mentioned that "she was bullied there," and said that Mija ultimately quit being a comedian.
Mija said, "It was the greatest unfilial act. I tried to die; my depression worsened, and I remember giving a knife to my father asking him to kill me," and added, "I vividly remember running around crazily begging someone to kill me. Going through such a painful time seems to have pushed people away," which drew sympathy.
Also, last year on the YouTube channel "A-Class Jang Young-ran," Mija said, "Sudden depression came upon me," and confessed, "I really lived my life working hard. I was the same in school and when I went to university I was almost always first or second, getting scholarships. In my 20s, while my friends were all partying and dating, I kept doing seven study groups, preparing to become an announcer and living like a maniac, working extremely hard."
She continued, "My friends got jobs and got married and were happy, but I was left with nothing; I had no friends and for about three years I didn't leave the house at all. I stayed in my room and my parents had a very hard time. I was extremely unfilial. All I thought about was dying. I felt that way at the time," a confession that surprised Jang Young-ran.
Mija went through a difficult period in the past but overcame it, married comedian Kim Tae-hyeon and is living a happy married life, and is also actively working on home shopping.
