Broadcaster Jeong Hyung Don voiced his opinion on the issue of overbearing parents who send absurd complaints to schools.
On the 11th, a video titled "Hwang Je-seong's luxury scolding that silences Hwang Je-seong in one word!!" was uploaded to the "From today, Hwang Je-seong" channel.
That day Hwang Je-seong invited Jeong Hyung Don and they discussed a variety of topics together. In the midst of that, Jeong Hyung Don said, "Shall I tell you about complaints? Parents' complaints," and mentioned the various complaints that actually come into elementary schools.
He gave an example of an overbearing parent, saying, "I can't disclose the source. For example, there are squid nuts and Jjanggu snacks. When you hand them out, Jjanggu might be missing sometimes, right? Then the child goes and says, 'Mom, I ate the squid nuts but I actually wanted to eat Jjanggu,' and then they call immediately. 'My child likes Jjanggu, why did you give them squid nuts and make them choke!'"
He emphasized that the real situation is even more serious, saying, "This is really a softened adaptation. I'm not lying; for lower grades you try to feed them a variety. You try to get them to try it. Tell them to try kimchi once. Then you immediately get a (complaint) call accusing child abuse. 'My child can't eat spicy food!' I softened this. I'm really speaking gently."
Hearing this, Hwang Je-seong was shocked and said that deprivation is necessary. He compared past strict educational methods, saying, "There was the lesson at the table, wasn't there? The kind we received back then. 'You bastard, before adults pick up their spoons! I told you not to pick up your spoon before adults!' Those basic things."
Then Jeong Hyung Don replied, "But my father didn't do that," which made Hwang Je-seong say, "My dad..." and elicit laughter. Jeong Hyung Don went on to pinpoint the issue, saying, "But this isn't a binary argument that the past was good and now is bad. If it becomes a social problem, it's something worth considering."
He added a sharp remark: "Can I speak frankly about that? If you're that worried, don't send your children to school. Home-school them. School is not just a place for education; it's a place for a child to grow into a person. If you only want education, don't send them to school; just keep them in your care. It's about learning to live together."
Meanwhile, Jeong Hyung Don married former broadcast writer Han Yu-ra in 2009 and has twin daughters. Han Yu-ra stayed in Hawaii for their daughters' studies, but recently returned to Korea, ending Jeong Hyung Don's life as a gireogi father.
