YouTuber Kim Seon-tae recently reported that his income has decreased.
On the 11th, a video titled "Kim Seon-tae promotion" was uploaded to Kim Seon-tae's YouTube channel.
In the video, when asked "How have you been these days?", Kim Seon-tae confessed, "As you know, I'm getting by day by day." When asked, "Don't you have many jobs these days?", he said, "We don't have many jobs, and actually it's the peak season. Seasonally it's the peak season, but for us it feels like a rather cold winter," describing a difficult situation.
When asked, "How is the company atmosphere these days?", Kim Seon-tae honestly said, "There was one staff member who was helping, but they said they were quitting. When you watch something like Titanic, isn't the mouse the first to get out? Isn't that one of the mice? They are trying to survive. I didn't think the treatment was bad or anything. From the staff member's position, they might dislike it."
Later, when asked "What are you doing today?", Kim Seon-tae said, "Mostly I check emails." When asked, "Do you still get a lot of emails these days?", he checked an email and said, "An email came after a long time," then made a bitter face and said, "It's spam."
When asked, "What is the hardest part of running the company?", Kim Seon-tae said, "The burden is great. The company could close at any time, couldn't it?" When asked, "Haven't you received emails from advertisers?", he said, "I did. The advertiser sent a photo," and after checking the email, it turned out to be restaurant promotion content.
When asked, "Are you thinking of visiting? Given the current situation, shouldn't you go to all of them?", Kim Seon-tae agreed, saying, "I should capture it." After looking at another email, he said, "I received a lecture offer," and added, "I have been turning down lecture offers. I kept declining to focus on YouTube content, but circumstances have changed now, so I'm thinking about giving lectures. Seeing a lot of news coverage, lectures might not be a bad idea."
Meanwhile, Kim Seon-tae said he is currently carrying out an advertising request and bowed in gratitude to the advertiser. He said, "Honestly, I've been a bit arrogant lately. I want to work earnestly to regain my original mindset." He revealed the advertisement request was not an easy one, and when asked why he accepted it despite that, he said, "My throat is a government office".
In particular, Kim Seon-tae went out to buy a recorder for shooting the advertisement content and had tteokbokki for a meal. When asked, "Are you going to replace lunch with this?" he said, "I think I have to reduce expenditure, and these days I don't have much appetite so I'm not eating much."
Separately, Kim Seon-tae faced backlash in July over secondary harm related to RESCENE. At the time, he attempted a challenge as the sole terrestrial MC through the KBS-produced variety show 'Don Seon-tae success era.' But he sparked controversy by directly mentioning the "museobno" controversy in a pre-release video of RESCENE, who appeared as the first guest. Previously, criticism had arisen when Won-i, a member from Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do, used the dialectal expression "museobno" on her YouTube channel, and some argued it did not fit dialect grammar and claimed it was an Ilbe term, which triggered the issue. The controversy spread widely, even being mentioned in political circles.
Meanwhile, in the pre-release video of 'Don Seon-tae success era,' Kim Seon-tae directly asked RESCENE's Won-i about her feelings regarding the "museobno" controversy. But the thumbnail saying "What's scary?" and the phrase "Why is my story coming up in political circles?!" along with tagging the names of politicians unrelated to RESCENE in hashtags drew public criticism accusing the producers of trying to provoke attention. In the end, the 'Don Seon-tae' team changed the thumbnail phrase to "Please look kindly♥︎", but when the controversy did not subside, they deleted the video.
In response, Kim Seon-tae apologized, saying, "I didn't request prior review or prior release of the video while hiding behind the name of the broadcaster," and, "After the video was made private, I took time to reflect on my words and actions. From now on, I will be more careful with all my remarks and actions." The 'Don Seon-tae' producers also expressed apologies to RESCENE and Kim Seon-tae, but ultimately 'Don Seon-tae' was not aired even once, and they decided on Kim Seon-tae's voluntary withdrawal and cancellation of the broadcast schedule.
