SEVENTEEN Hoshi suffered a knee injury six months before his military discharge.
On the 12th, Hoshi posted on the official fan community Weverse, "Hello Carats (fandom name). This may be a bit surprising news, so I am writing cautiously," announcing the knee injury.
Hoshi said, "I injured my knee during rehearsals with the ground forces performance team and after examination I was diagnosed with a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. Because of this, I will need to focus on recovery for a while after surgery, so I will not be able to participate in the scheduled taekwondo demonstration team event and the ground forces festival," he said.
Earlier, Hoshi enlisted last September as an active-duty soldier in the army and this January was reassigned to the newly formed Army Taekwondo Demonstration Unit to serve. Afterwards, the army's official channels released performances he took part in as a member of the taekwondo demonstration unit, drawing attention, and he performed at various national events, including the 107th March 1st Independence Movement Day commemorative cultural event held in March this year and the National Museum of Korea performing arts festival, generating buzz.

A complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament means the ligament that stabilizes the center inside the knee is completely torn. If ligament reconstruction surgery is performed, return to daily life is generally possible in about six weeks, but recovery and rehabilitation for strenuous activities such as sports are known to require six months to more than a year.
Also, because a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament occurring during military service and requiring surgery would make one eligible for medical discharge review, there is speculation that Hoshi may be discharged from military service relatively early. In fact, singer Jang Beomjune was also discharged as a medical case after his cruciate ligament ruptured with six months left before discharge and he underwent review.
However, separate from his military service, concerns have been raised about whether this injury will affect Hoshi's activities as a singer. Hoshi is the performance team leader and producer who serves as the core of Seventeen's performances, and because he has taken charge of creating choreography and leading rehearsals, his absence could have an impact.
