Former baseball player turned broadcaster Hwang Jae-gyun opened up about his past experiences of repeatedly failing in the café business.
On the 11th, a video titled "How did Hwang Jae-gyun become Fashion Hwang?" was uploaded to the Illuhwang channel.
That day, Hwang Jae-gyun showed off his "fashion people" side while shopping in Seongsu-dong. During that time, the production team asked, "We heard you were Seongsu people," drawing attention.
Hearing this, Hwang Jae-gyun recalled, "Ah.. about three years ago I ambitiously opened a bagel café and it failed in about five months," adding, "I ambitiously changed that place into a salad café a second time, but it failed in about three months," recalling the painful memory.
In fact, in April 2022 Hwang Jae-gyun announced the café opening, saying, "I opened a bagel café with friends. Please visit a lot. We guarantee the taste of bagels and coffee." The café was part of a famous franchise with various branches nationwide, and Hwang Jae-gyun entered the café business by opening a branch near Seongsu Station.
However, it went under in less than half a year, and although he tried to regroup by turning it into a salad café, that too closed down shortly afterward, a story he revealed belatedly.
The production team sighed, "Ah.. well..," but Hwang Jae-gyun nonetheless emphasized, "Seongsu people." Then the production team fired a blunt comment, "The two combined didn't even last a year," and Hwang Jae-gyun snapped back, "Hey, I said Seongsu people," adding to the laughter.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jae-gyun announced his marriage when he revealed his relationship with T-ara's Jiyeon in February 2022. The two held their wedding in December of the same year, but divorce rumors arose in June 2024, and ultimately they divorced by mutual agreement in November 2024, two years after their marriage.
