Singer IU and actress Yoon In-na's unchanging "entertainment world representative soulmate" friendship once again shone. Through her new song she conveys heartfelt affection toward her close friend Yoon In-na, offering resonance to music fans.
IU released new digital singles "From this star" and "Dear my crazy soulmate" on the 10th. This new song is a pre-release track from her upcoming sixth full-length album, and as her first release in a year since she released "Bye, Summer" in September last year, it drew intense interest from music fans.
As soon as the tracks were released, the title track "From this star" swept first place on major music charts such as Melon HOT 100, Jini and Bugs, and topped the iTunes top songs charts overseas in places such as Singapore and Taiwan.
Among them, the other title track, a tribute to Yoon In-na, "Dear my crazy soulmate," not only entered the upper ranks of major domestic charts but also appeared on charts in nine overseas regions, attracting attention.
In particular, IU left a short but powerful message in the song description on the music platform saying "to Yoon In-na," explicitly naming Yoon In-na as the subject of the song. The lyrics written by IU herself are filled with memories built up over a long time and their special sincerity.
In the lyrics, candid and lovely confessions are sweet, such as "You confessed your strangeness again today and were disappointed, but in front of me you can be strange forever, so I like you more," and "I'll wear the funny T-shirt you gave me; when I playfully show the necklace with a blue moon drawn on it and you laugh, that's when I like you the most." In addition, by saying "It's my dream for the two of us to become strange gramma (grandmothers) together," she promises an eternal friendship to stay together even as time passes, creating a warm feeling.
Their relationship began on the SBS variety show "Heroes" in 2010. They grew closer after playing sisters in the 2013 KBS 2TV drama "Lee Soon Shin is the Best," and despite an 11-year age gap they established themselves as representative close friends in the entertainment world.
While filming the drama "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," IU composed the self-written song "You" thinking of Yoon In-na, and the song "Drama" was also written inspired by thoughts of Yoon In-na, making them constant artistic inspirations for each other. Yoon In-na also appeared on IU's YouTube show "IU's Palette" in the past and read aloud a self-written poem "You like a bead," saying "I'm truly grateful that there is someone like that to me, and that that person is healthy," which drew attention.
The new song's music video likewise captured the special meaning of their exceptional friendship. Starring actors Kim Young-ok, Na Moon-hee, Shim Dal-gi and Esom, the music video portrays the cheerful yet moving special friendship between Young-ok, who goes into prison to meet a friend she cannot spend a birthday with, and prison guard Moon-hee, maximizing the song's emotional impact.
For 16 years they have steadfastly stayed by each other's side and elevated their friendship into art: IU and Yoon In-na. Seeing the two of them makes you nod in agreement with the saying that "friendship is the perfect form of love."
