(Following interview②) Actor Lee Minho candidly expressed regret over the box office failure of his previous work "Omniscient Reader."
On the morning of the 11th, an interview with actor Lee Minho, the lead of the film "Assassin(s)," was held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The film "Assassin(s)" (director Heo Jin-ho, produced by Hive media corp, distributed by Hive media corp) is a story that traces the suspicions and background of the First Lady shooting incident that shocked Korea on Aug. 15, 1974.
Previously, Lee Minho met audiences last year through "Omniscient Reader: The Prophet" (director Kim Byung-woo). "Omniscient Reader: The Prophet" is a fantasy action film based on the popular web novel of the same name; on the day the more-than-10-year serialized novel concluded, the world of the novel became reality, and the only reader, Kim Dok-ja (played by Ahn Hyo Seop), together with the novel's protagonist Yu Jung-hyuk (played by Lee Minho) and his comrades, fights to survive in a ruined world.
Although the project had a production budget exceeding 30 billion won, it failed at the box office, drawing a final audience of 1.06 million amid much criticism. However, it proved global interest by securing advance sales to 113 countries before release.
Particularly, the film adaptation of "Omniscient Reader: The Prophet" was known to have been planned as a five-part series, but it ended regrettably due to the poor performance of the first installment. Lee Minho honestly said, "Actually, in the large-scale plan I wanted to show the meeting of Yu Jung-hyuk and Kim Dok-ja so that in part two the reader would take on Yu Jung-hyuk's role and Yu Jung-hyuk would become the reader; that was a point I really wanted to portray, but it couldn't happen, so I'm disappointed."
He said, "From the second story it goes deep. It was the section where tangled relationships and the real message I wanted to tell would come out, but it's regrettable that we couldn't portray even that."
When asked if he would be willing to participate if season 2 were produced later, he retorted, "Would it be possible?" and then gave a positive answer, saying, "Because it is an IP representing Korea, I would like to participate in any way possible if there is a chance for revival."
