Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin candidly said the manslaughter trial that followed the fatal firearms accident on the set of the film "Rust" was the worst moment of his life.
On Oct. 10 (local time), the first trailer for the documentary The Trial of Alec Baldwin (scheduled to open Oct. 16) was released. Directed by Rory Kennedy, the documentary closely follows Alec Baldwin's life and trial after the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the 2021 film "Rust."
In the released preview, 68-year-old Alec Baldwin said, "When I heard that she had died, I was in shock and could not believe it," and expressed deep sorrow and helplessness, saying, "If someone told me that climbing Mount Everest would bring her back, I would pack my bags and leave right now. I would do anything I can, but there is nothing I can do."
The footage also shows the family suffering while being bombarded by reporters and being shouted at on the street with questions like, "How does it feel to have killed someone?" His wife, Hilaria Baldwin, also described the urgent situation in which she had to leave the city with her children to avoid paparazzi.
Recalling the 2024 manslaughter trial, Alec Baldwin said, "After being acquitted and leaving, I wanted everyone to leave me alone. I never dreamed my life would become like this," and added, "Those who watch this documentary will see me at my very worst."
Previously, in October 2021 on the set of "Rust" in New Mexico, a prop gun that Alec Baldwin was holding discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Baldwin was later charged with manslaughter and pleaded not guilty, but in July 2024 the charges were dismissed by a judge three days after the trial began.
In an interview with the media last April, Baldwin said, "This incident affected everything from finances and my career to my wife and children and my health," and said he even considered retirement.
Director Rory Kennedy said, "The victim in this case is of course Halyna Hutchins, and I extend my deep condolences to her family," but added, "However, the category of victims can widen under various circumstances, and there needs to be room for perspectives on that."
