Actor Yoo Hae-jin expressed deep gratitude for the public's love for him.
On the morning of the 11th at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview was held with leading actor Yoo Hae-jin of the film "Assassin(s)".
The film "Assassin(s)" (director Heo Jin-ho, produced by Hive media corp, distributed by Hive media corp) is a story that traces the suspicions and backers of the First Lady shooting incident on Aug. 15, 1974, which shocked Korea.
So far Yoo Hae-jin has earned the title "Korea's top cumulative box office actor" by receiving audiences' love through various works, including five films that exceeded 10 million admissions such as "The King and the Clown," "Veteran," "A Taxi Driver," "Exhuma," and "The King's Warden." In response, Yoo Hae-jin said sheepishly, "Because I've done so many. I wondered if it was already 66 films. I haven't counted exactly, but someone said that while hosting. They said it had been 30 years, and I thought, 'Ah, it's been 30 years.'"
He honestly admitted a sense of burden, saying, "I receive a lot of congratulations. I got the most when I won awards. Even before that, because many people came to see the films, I kept hearing those things. But I felt a heavy burden about whether I would continue to hear that in 'Assassin(s).'"
He expressed responsibility, saying, "Praise is always embarrassing. On the one hand, since I receive such praise, I want to tell myself I did well. I want to give myself some gift. That is something I have internally, and outwardly I thought I should be more careful. After watching this film, the thought I had reminded me of the film "Modup" that I will soon appear in. I thought I should work hard. It's a very difficult film. Although that may be true of all films, it's not an easy film. But it made me feel I should work harder. Because that means people are watching. If I act poorly at that time, the backlash could be greater, so I often think I must be more serious."
In particular, Yoo Hae-jin won the grand prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards held last May for "The King's Warden." As a result, many members of the public poured out sincere congratulations for Yoo Hae-jin, who rose steadily from bit parts to the grand prize.
In response, Yoo Hae-jin joked and brought laughter, saying, "I talked about it on variety shows too, and generally I said I was so grateful that people liked it so much. I was reading comments and was amazed. I was very thankful. There were so many congratulatory messages. Except for one person who said, 'The acceptance speech seemed clumsy,' that's about it."
He became emotional, saying, "It wasn't just talk; I felt very thankful. Everywhere I go I heard, 'I cried,' so many times. Winning the award itself is nice, but I was very grateful that people celebrated with me like this." He added, "I think there's that feeling too. A sense of having spent time together. They know that person's past, so they think, 'It hasn't been easy from the past to now.'" Even as his eyes reddened, Yoo Hae-jin added, "This is serious. Maybe it's menopause," making people laugh.
Meanwhile, "Assassin(s)" opens on the 23rd.
