Singer Lee Sang-mi asked people to stop making wild speculations about (G)I-dle's Soyeon's new song.
Lee Sang-mi on the 11th posted on social media, "Stop the wild guesses, no no~," and released a photo taken with (G)I-dle's Soyeon.
Soyeon on Sept. 7 released her first solo full-length album "A life to remember" and began promotions with the title track "I quit (Narr. Kian84)."
"I quit (Narr. Kian84)" is a song that expresses the theme of "quitting," something any office worker can relate to, through Soyeon's unique wit and band sound.
Immediately after release it entered Melon TOP100, one of the country's major music charts, and simultaneously reached the top ranks of the HOT100 (30·100 days) chart; it proved its music power by ranking No. 2 on China's Kugou Music Korea chart, No. 2 on iTunes Peru chart and No. 24 in Hong Kong, among others.
However, after its release listeners reacted that the introduction of "I quit" sounded similar to EX's "Please take care of me." The Korea Music Copyright Association confirmed that Expression and EX were jointly registered, leading to various speculations.
In response, Soyeon appeared on Radio Star and said, "I'm making a solo comeback after five years and have done various styles of band music during that time. This time, preparing for a Seoul band style for the first time, I wanted to pay homage to senior EX's distinctive manner of speaking, so I contacted him directly and received permission."
Also, Park Jung-hyun, the producer who made band EX's representative song, cheered, saying, "(G)I-dle's genius musician Jeon Soyeon's first album was released on Sept. 7. I didn't expect her to reveal a highlight medley while eating ramen at the Han River. She's a musician I can learn a lot from in many ways."
Amid listeners' speculation, footage of Soyeon and EX's Lee Sang-mi doing a challenge together was also released. Soyeon appeared wearing the exact outfit Lee Sang-mi had worn when she competed in the college song festival, and Lee Sang-mi performed "I quit" live, bringing emotion. In particular, Lee Sang-mi urged people to stop speculating and actively supported Soyeon, saying, "The day we filmed the reels was Soyeon's birthday. I gave her a cake that fit her perfectly as a birthday gift, so we celebrated her birthday all at once. It was truly a happy day for me, too."
Soyeon also presented a signed album and wrote, "It was an honor to be able to create even a little of the color of a senior I've always admired. As you texted me, senior, I will work even harder1 Really thank you."
